How quality is specified for Thai refined sugar exports

Last updated: 17 August 2026

Quick answer: “Premium” is not a test result. Buyers protect themselves by naming a grade, a method, and the documents that will prove it at load.

ICUMSA colour is the language most used for white refined cane sugar. Pair it with any other limits your plant requires (moisture, grain, insolubles) so the mill is not guessing.

Refining after raw sugar production is what produces a white crystal. The manufacturing process page outlines cultivation through crystallisation, refining, drying, and packing in general terms.

Quality control continues at packing: bag integrity, net weight, marks, and lot identity. A correct certificate attached to the wrong lot is still a failure.

Shipment documents should match the contracted specification. If the contract says ICUMSA 45, the quality document should not describe an unnamed “white sugar”.

Keep a retain sample policy if your inbound QC lab needs it. Agree sampling in the contract when destination testing will decide acceptance.

UFI’s quality standard page describes our commitment from process to shipment. Combine it with a product-page enquiry so the grade you want is the grade we quote.

If a term is unclear, use the glossary. ICUMSA, polarity, and Incoterms are defined there for buyers who are new to sugar contracts.
